100+ Lists To Help You Become a Better Blogger

in Blogging Tips & Tricks

There are tons of blogger lists throughout the web. Lists in 123 formats, ABC, etc. are probably one of the most useful posts around. The only problem with everyone writing list posts are they aren’t getting seen by everyone!

I had an idea one night. Even before Blogussion was created, that I would try to find the best blogger lists on the internet and compile them into one giant list for everyone to see. I have organized them into categories like making money, SEO, design, writing, and others.

I’m very happy to present to you my list of the best 100 blogging lists on the internet. If you want to add a list, just comment below and I will add it up. I have found 100 lists, so now let’s see if you can find me 100 more. ;)

Wowza, thanks for pulling all of those together Alex! Ok this isn’t exactly a ‘list’ but just wanted to give a heads up to bloggers that Searchles released a Related Posts widget for blogs last week that works really well. It actually analyzes the content of your posts for better relevancy so you don’t even have to tag. You guys should check it out! http://www.searchles.com/misc/platform Useful on a few levels – pageviews, ad revenue and there are SEO benefits involved too.

That looks pretty interesting actually. The one thing I hate about my Related posts plugin is that it really doesn’t provide the best results sometimes. Thanks for sharing that with us. :)

Yeah, I agree with you. I probably should have did a few more quotes. It’s something I may go back and do. Maybe even add pictures. Thanks for your suggestions though, I appreciate it! :)

I just meant I was one the lists, e.g. the first one from IronBlogger. For the quote, did you just use blockquote and it was styled by your theme or did you do something particular to get it to look like that?

Reply

34 Alex February 17, 2009 at 7:50 pm

I styled it in the theme. It was really simple to do. If you need help doing it, or want to know how let me know. I’d be glad to help you out!

Personally, I tend to stay away from the headlines: Great ways to make money online with your blog! or anything like that. Since I’m 16, I know I’m not going to make money, nor will I ever make money off a blog. I’m most concerned with the traffic I get and the community I build around my blog.

I will most deffinitely be checking out some of those blogs about how to increase your traffic, right now I only have 16 hits on my blog, but I’m trying to spread the word around. The blogs on wordpress look interesting also. I’m currently using blogger, because it’s just easy to update and use. However, I hear wordpress gives you more control over your blog because you have more freedom with customizing certain aspects that can make your blog very unique to the visitors you get.

Anyways, great post, and good research!

Hey Evan,

Just because your 16 doesn’t mean you can’t earn from your blog. Myself, I’m 16 too and Alex is even a year younger than me. Yet we can truthfully say that we are happy with the way Blogussion is going.

We launched Blogussion recently and it hasn’t even completed two months! We’ve had three advertisers and also a paid review for Retire@21.

Don’t ever let anything pull you down, because if there’s a will there is always a way. Also never give up buddy, work hard at it, make friends and make sure you do the basics :)

Your plans to build on traffic is just perfect, because everything comes down to it. So, don’t worry about making money straight away – but instead work on building a good solid readership.

It doesn’t happen overnight and might take a considerable amount of time, but those who that stick to it long enough will see success.

Good luck and if you ever need any help with anything ~ don’t hesitate to contact one of us, we’d love to give you a helping hand!

PS – Move to Wordpress, it is one of the most effective things you can do for your blog.

Thanks for the advice! So you guys are pretty young too huh? Nothing better than great young minds at work, and I appreciate the offer to help, a lot!

I have actually decided to moving to WP, has too many great features that I’m missing out on. Going to be some work though but hey, it’s worth it.

That’s great to hear Evan!

I’m glad you are moving to WP – and I second your comment on the features. With the many free themes + plugins you can customize Wordpress to look pretty much any way you want.

Don’t forget to export your posts from Blogger, then import them back to your new Wordpress ;)

41 Evan February 19, 2009 at 3:51 am

Thanks for the tips! The transition went smoothly, but I’m still getting used to the wide range of options. I’m still pretty bummed that you have to pay to edit or upload your own theme. Looks like I’ll have to check out some of those Word Press hacks also, now that my blog is actually hosted by them, haha!

Ohh, I see you’ve gone with Wordpress.com?

That’s a lot like blogger, but if you can self-host a copy of Wordpress (www.wordpress.org) you are open to much, much more customization and the uploading of themes/plugins are absolutely free!

However, you need to find a good solid host and then upload the Wordpress Files.

Reply

43 Evan February 19, 2009 at 1:21 pm

Ahh, I was thinking about that. The trouble is actually paying for it, since you cannot just pay for things with cash through a computer, and sadly my parents probably won’t let me use their cred card to purchase the host.

But hey, thanks for the advice! I will look more into the hosts, and hopefully build some traffic on my blog.

Aww that’s a shame, really. My parents were like that too ~ but if you can convince them to let you open up a PayPal account, then you might have a better chance. Tell them that Paypal is a sub-part of eBay (that’s what worked for me) and if you can get that open, they will have a bit more peace-of-mind letting you transfer money across the internet.

Still it doesn’t get you a “cash through a computer” method, but it’s safer than just using a credit-card upfront :)

Well, there as such no problem if you go through that link since I have redirected all the earlier permalinks to the proper pages but still google might look at it as broken link so …

I will be starting with the traffic driving and SEO sections. That is what I am currently focusing on. I pretty much have all of the bones in place and think my time is now best spent bringing awareness.
