Do you know what kind of blogger you are? Do you really know? It’s easy to let your strengths and your flaws (as minor as some of them may be) become too large of a factor in how you think of yourself as a blogger.

The more you know about yourself, the better. It’s not easy figuring everything out believe it or not, as it is easy to get hung up on certain things. For instance, if you focus on improving your marketing skills, you may forget your design skills need touching up as well.

There are a lot of things you need to be able to realize to be able to move your blog forward. Of course it’s smart to know what you’re good and bad at, but how many of you take the time to question your beliefs about blogging?

You would be surprised at what you could find out if you just asked yourself a question and really thought about the answer. So, I want you to do just that with the 50 questions I came up with below.

Need more reflection?
If after answering these questions you still have the need to find more out about yourself, fear not! I compiled a list of 50 questions to ask yourself last year, and the response was very well.

  1. When opportunities come around, how do you react? Have you missed any, and if so – why?
  2. Which do your blog articles accomplish – teaching people, or taking up space?
  3. How far will you go to get new readers on your blog? Even if it just means two or three at a time?
  4. How much money have you made from selling advertisements on your blog?
  5. If not much – why do you keep them up?
  6. When you make a decision for your blog, is it because you might gain something, or so your readers gain something?
  7. Is your blog a success because of the person behind it, or the numbers it boasts (RSS readers, Twitter followers, newsletter size, etc,)?
  8. Have you ever tried communicating with any of your readers at places other than your blog (Twitter, their blog, etc)?
  9. When you don’t feel like blogging, what do you do?
  10. How much marketing does your blog do itself?
  11. Do you make the best of your strengths on a daily basis?
  12. How do you work to improve your weaknesses on a daily basis?
  13. Which is your attitude towards success: through hard work every day, or hard work in shorter periods of time?
  14. Do you do the work yourself, or do others help you?
  15. Why aren’t more people helping you do work (guest posts, marketing, donations, etc.)?
  16. What has “acting now” really done for you?
  17. Is the process in which you work on your blog logical, or is work only done when other, sometimes more enjoyable things are done?
  18. What’s one thing you don’t really like doing? When will you finally do it?
  19. How do you react when an article doesn’t do as well as you’d like – go back and try to fix it, or learn why it didn’t do well?
  20. Is the word “no” in your vocabulary?
  21. Do you think you’re the best blogger in your niche? Why not?
  22. How easy is it for readers to communicate with you?
  23. How much effort to you put into communicating back?
  24. What’s your biggest distraction, and what do you do to get rid of it?
  25. When was the last time you wrote a guest post for another blog?
  26. How much time do you spend wisely on social networking sites?
  27. How much time do you spend writing headlines, and opening an article?
  28. Are you taking productivity the wrong way?
  29. Do you still worry about the irrelevant?
  30. What is the best thing about your blog design?
  31. How do you work under the fact that you probably won’t be rewarded for it?
  32. How diverse are your blogging topics?
  33. What’s a “minor detail” to you?
  34. What do you spend the most time doing on your blog? Why not something else?
  35. How have you prepared for a blog hack? What would you do if your blog got hacked into?
  36. Which pays off more for your community: free or premium?
  37. How are you harming your posts?
  38. Which comes first: search engines or human readers?
  39. Does your blog interrupt the flow of conversation by forcing new comments to be manually approved?
  40. Is fighting spam REALLY worth harming user experience?
  41. When you’re forced to write a blog post at the last minute – what does quality mean to you?
  42. Would you call your workflow determined or obsessive?
  43. What is time to you? Do you mind working for long periods of time on the same thing, or do you burn out after a little bit of work?

  50. So, did you answer every single question honestly?

What kind of blogger are you?

Hopefully those questions have made you realize some new things about your blogging habits, or changed your opinion of some things.

Feel free to share your answers with us in the comments below. I would love to hear some of your answers and debate with you about your “findings.”

Hi Alex,
I don’t think it is good to answer all questions here because it will be one blog post if someone do. :D

Let me summarize what kind of blogger I am. I’m a social media blogger. I spend a lot at social sites to engage with other. I don’t think much about finding money as I’m a young person. Sometimes, I’m blogging seriously but sometimes I’m blogging in relaxing way. I’m enjoying this and still making side income. Hopefully I can be a full time blogger soon and get to do what I want and when I want.

Cheers

You don’t have to answer them in a blog post, just answer them in your head.

Hey Alex,

Interesting post and tricky questions. I was trying to answer each of them and Im quite surprised I cannot answer some of the questions. Its either Im not sure if thats really what I feel or I just answered that for the sake of being “good”.

I don’t really feel some of the questions are related to blogging but Im surely going to take more time to try to answer those questions. ;)

It’s not possible to answer all the questions. if you try to give all the answers then it will become a post of approx 2000+ words. Indeed it’s better that tell something about you and your blogging goals, etc. it will be fruitfull to new bloggers who are going to take blogging as a new carrier.

Yeah, I ran across a blog the other day where an adsense banner was covering up half the bloggers face and some other things on the site. I wondered if all that was worth the 30 cents he probably made from that banner.

Aren’t those always the most appealing blogs? ;)

I made about $50 in 2 months from selling ads, and wow – what a waste of space that was. Sure, when I made my first sale I was ecstatic. But that was only for about a day, and when no one else purchased…it was time to go!

Definitely great questions that every blogger should be asking themselves at all times.

One question that jumped out to me was #6, asking “When you make a decision for your blog, is it because you might gain something, or so your readers gain something?”. Theoretically, I want to say I make every decision so that my readers will gain something, but realistically, I make some decisions so that it makes my blogging life easier, which is selfish of me.

It’s a constant struggle to balance our wants versus the readers’ needs. What do you think?

Glad you enjoyed them Jon. :)

Honestly, I think of it like this. When you make good decisions and put yourself second to your community, your blog will most likely grow. When your blog grows, I think it’s safe to say that things get a little easier on you? Of course, if you make more decisions that impact you more positively than your readers, your blog may not be on the right foot and things won’t get easier as fast. Does that make sense?

True. I guess it’s hardest to put the readers in front of you when you just started your blog and don’t have many readers to put in front. But after this hump, it’s definitely a lot easier with feedback and comments from loyal readers.

Right up front, i have not read them all yet, lol. But I did catch two immeditely.

Yes, once I started “acting immediately”, I really do see things happen for the better.

Also, I do everything for the readers first; quite evident in recent months especially. Then it’s a toss up between me and the search engines.
