Very well written posts. I filled my blog with related post link at the header, at the footer and at the end of post. Hopefully this will help my reader to stay focus on my blog.

I have never gotten any use out of having banners on the sidebars of my web sites. You couldn’t be more accurate when you say they may be sabotaging your efforts to build your blog community. I find my web sites are optimized best when they contain in this order the rss, categories, recent posts, then a 160×600 ad just below the fold. The only exception is on the blogs that offer newsletters where I will prominently display an opt-in at the top of the sidebar (i get major sign-ups this way).

I love your idea Alex, On my blog banner ads have very low conversion rate instead of embedding affiliate link on my blog post. I also realize that banner ads don’t giving much value to the visitors.

This is pretty gutsy. There is so much pressure to ‘make money blogging’ that it’s hard for people to believe that banner ads are harmful on a young blog. They are something that can be worthwhile only after years of reputation and community building, when you don’t need the content links above the fold anymore because people know about your content before they even come to your blog.
