Good decision, when it comes to moderation you really should know those people or some terrible things could happen. But what exactly happened to you that was so negative? Did someone mess up your forum with their moderation tools, or was it something else?

So you pay your staff members? I haven’t seen many forums that do that. Let me know how you do it.

Nice article and Its really bad i even had similar experience as discussion forum,
Now i only Trust People whom i know more then 2months and i dont pay at starting,
I prefer Applications but i also keep invitaions,

I run a board, and I invited 6-8 moderators to control the board for me. They all left but I don’t blame them, the board is inactive, not too many people posts there.

That’s a very interesting read, but personally when I used to be in the forum-business (not anymore) I’ve realized that sending out invitations can make other members feel upset like you’ve stated.

That was the biggest problem I had when it came to invitations. So, I decided to go with Applications and everyone had an opportunity to try out and I could personally review them one by one, thus giving me a better idea of who to recruit

Applications have been better for me, but not for everyone from what I’ve heard.
