A new model is brought to your attention on what should be going through your head while building your blog. In short, it’s the ESC model but its similar to how supercars are built in the non-technical aspects. We’re not building blogs that are good enough for tomorrow. We’re building a blog like a supercar and if we aren’t we should be. So how is a supercar built?

build blog supercar ferrariModels are to be used merely as what they are called. You use them when and where you want to and can adjust them to how you see the model fit. Is the model perfect? No. Will be the model a good ground to start on? Yes. I’ve compared this model to igniting yourself to build your blog like a supercar. Here we go!

Origin of the ESC Model

Excel, Sublime, and Charge are three words that came right to my head when I was thinking about really wanting my upcoming blog launch to create a bang. A bang being lots of buzz that is little at first, but through time it gets bigger and is very well respected and always looked up to.

Yes, we should always be striving to stand out from the crowd, especially in a crowded niche. Even if we are not in a crowded niche, you should set out to create a trend, be unique, and always over-deliver.

The ESC model comes from my mind and I want to pass it onto yours. It’s merely a way to get thinking and focused on how to start building your blog that will keep people talking about it from today and tomorrow and the day after that, etc.

Yes, blogging could seem as a fad for time sake, but when the time comes to change or transform you’ll be ready to expand and adapt with the same principles set in place.

Excel

Definition: to surpass others or do extremely well
In other words, put in time and effort all the time. Just because you experience some sort of celebration, such as a traffic spike, don’t feel you should relax or slow down.

Why are you slacking or falling behind?

If you want your blog to excel you have to consistently put in the hard work or “sweat equity” like any other blogger or founder has done. Admire someone? Push to get to their level and don’t expect to wake up the next morning already there.

Supercars weren’t brought to their success overnight and in order to maintain that success they have to continue to do extremely well. You can start by excelling through dedication and effectively using the time you do have. When you start excelling everyday, people will talk about you, and you will be noticed. But, you have to show your hard work.

Sublime

Definition: elevated or lofty in thought
You’ve got your blog. It’s sitting there and you may have already created a community that you call yours.

But, why should this community continue to come and maybe tell others about your blog?

Here is where you need to begin thinking in a sublime way that still matches your blog’s purpose, your voice, and your niche. Andrew Henderson talked about how we should “corner the market” and go off the beaten path. This meaning that bloggers in a crowded niche such as “Make Money Online” or “Blogging Tips & Advice” need to be thinking of how they are going be different and create more attraction.

To begin this elevated or lofty in thought action, brainstorming is a good start.

These should be the same questions that you ask yourself with your blog

How do you think supercars got the “super”? Their creators and designers begin to think in a sublime way and they continue to stand out from the crowd. Now, specifically supercars are not in an overcrowded niche, but what would happen if they did not have any elevated or lofty thoughts? What makes one buy a Ferrari vs a Lamborghini or a Porshce that’s looking for a supercar?

Charge

(Also the Wrap-Up)

Definition: to load the mind

It’s your duty to complete the puzzle

Consider this the final piece to the puzzle or the model. Now, what I’ve just said won’t matter if you don’t have the charge. I could have put this first to highlight the importance, but the importance lies in that in order to make everything I just said work this charge needs to be present in you.

Loading your mind with new thoughts, different approaches, and wanting to surpass or do extremely well will get yourself building a better blog for today and tomorrow. Remember think like you’re building a supercar, more specifically your supercar.

What do you think about this analogy and these three words?

Hi,

Great example and great comparison to supercars.

I agree with your thoughts. I specially liked how you said “Just because you experience some sort of celebration, such as a traffic spike, don’t feel you should relax or slow down.” and “If you want your blog to excel you have to consistently put in the hard work or “sweat equity” like any other blogger or founder has done.” These are very true. We need to consistently work and work towards excellence. And be all charged up to make it all happen!

Thanks for motivating!

Kindest,
Nabeel

Nabeel,

I’m glad this was motivating for you. Consistency is key and just have the charge to do hard work but be yourself at the same time will get you to that next step.

Best, Derek

I think once you experience a traffic spike you should definitely make that become something usual on a blog/website, and like you said, not just sit back and say “hey, I am great, now I can stop and enjoy the benefits!”. NO way!

Exactly! You should really check out this post that Alex wrote: http://www.blogussion.com/expansion/traffic-spikes/

We really need to have everyone know that everyday takes the same effort and time in order to keep going.

Wow! Really killer post Derek,

You summed it up all.

I really like your analogy, if you do all others and you don’t charge then you might not get the expected results.

Thanks a lot for the great post,

Onibalusi,

Thanks! And I really see this post to work for bloggers that are new and experienced. If we keep these three words or something similar to them in the back of our head we will be sure to be successful.

This is a very interesting post. A very unique approach to formulating the steps to create a successful blog.

I’m glad you mentioned over-delivering. This is a concept I recently implemented on my own blog and I have begun to see real benefits. I wish I’d been exposed to the idea sooner. It really helps your blog stand out from the crowd.

It surely was interesting writing it / coming up with the idea. We really do need bloggers to over-deliver and maybe you can do good by passing this on to other bloggers ;)

Defrinitely a great way to say how to be a top notchy blogger- supar bikes are super because they have some thing new, they have an ex-factor and they have features compared to no ordinary bike, so that is why they are super.

Great Article, Jensen

Gautam,

We all need to be super in our own ways! Other than that we have to advertise really hard to get people to our blogs versus the others. If we go all out and be ourselves and put in the time and effort we won’t have to really worry about having to attract people.

The attraction will just happen, because people are talking about you.

Hey Derek,

This is a very unique and effective analogy. The same time, effort and dedication that goes into building the best cars in the world should be focused on building our online presence; especially since many niches are becoming so crowded.

In this day and age, mediocrity will not bring success, only the “super” way of thinking and executing.

Great article.

Robyn,

Indeed… having an online presence is very important and can only be created if the time, effort, and networking is involved.. consistently.

Thanks for the comment.

I don’t know much about cars lol..but your post is very interesting, i guess building long lasting cars (blogs) is very important, and i want to test it myself :D

Let’s see how long i can still build my blog, but hopefully very long time, and not only a “blog” but trying to convert it as “supercar”.

Thanks for your post Derek! always interesting to read it, yours are always different ;)

Using supercars was a great example to compare with a blog. They are always pushing the boundaries of what we know and that’s what bloggers are always trying to do too.

I just cant seem to figure out what I can do to make my blog a whole lot different and stand out, any suggestions?

Robert,

You’ve got that right with supercar makers/creators pushing the boundaries.

Well, looking at your blog briefly I see that you cover many different topics… have you ever thought about cutting down the number of topics and figure out which ones you care or have passion for the most. ???

Thanks for all of the great information and ideas. I also believe that overdelivering will help swing the pendulum in your favor. Standing out is also very important. Especially if you are going into the big niches. (IE: weight loss, love, etc) It is also good to study your competition closely. You can pick up some crafty ideas by doing so.

You’re welcome! Another thing to try is do something that you think is so awesome, unique, and creative without any research. This eliminates any second guesses. You just better rock it!
