The Easiest Post You’ve Ever Read

by Seth · 66 comments

Reading blogs can be very fun but sometimes it gets boring when there are no new ideas or its just too long.  How many times have you read a post that didn’t have anything to do with what you were interested in or subscribed to a blog that kept posting about things unrelated to their sole purpose?

Today I want to ask you some questions which will take less than a minute to answer and then ask for a 1 minute comment.  Your responses will help Blogussion understand its community even better and plan for the future with better posts that you want to read.

Just go through the blog questions and answer them. Later we will announce the results and tell you what our plans are once we have aggregated the data. If you are looking for more be sure to check out our archives or favorites and read some of our old posts for some fresh inspiration.

We also want to thank you for all being such wonderful friends and readers.  We learn so much from your insightful comments and support.  We also receive many wonderful tweets and emails about how unified and experienced our commentators are.  We think you are all great and want the very best for you.  If there is something we can do to help you succeed, let us know.  We love to help where possible.

Questions

Comments

Now that you have answered the questions we just need a quick comment. We want to know what kind of content you like to see in blog posts. Do you want to see more videos? Less long posts? Posting more often? Less of any blog topic?

What is the #1 thing you like about Blogussion?
What is the #1 thing you wish Blogussion would improve?

Good idea. I’ve also been thinking of setting up a poll for some time now.

I don’t think that thesis would be the best option for a topic. It’s a nice theme, but it makes me feel left out :P

Seth January 21, 2010 at 10:29 am

So far we are receiving mixed results about Thesis theme. We will look into the best way to help everyone and we’ll be sure to make sure our content is helpful to the most people possible.

Videos and podcasts are something we have thought about and we are glad to hear that there is some interest in them. I am sure you will see us experiment with these mediums more.

I like to see posts that make me think deeply – that go beyond just “how to write a blog post.” And I admit, I like to see reviews of tools I’m not yet familiar with.

Reply

Seth January 21, 2010 at 7:41 pm

Tools and Philosophy. I like your style. We definitely want to release more tool reviews in the future and also some deep posts. The only challenge is too many bloggers are looking for quick fixes which is too bad, because they are missing out on all of the deep content around.

What is the #1 thing you like about Blogussion?

One of the things I like about Blogussion is that there’s usually something relevant, and it’s pretty regular. The only thing I would say is that topics about specific themes (Thesis for example) or software used don’t really appeal to me much personally. It’s still interesting to glance through sometimes but usually they get skipped. ;)

What do I like about Blogussion? I actually have read new information on here, it doesn’t feel like a clone of everyone else out there.

What can you improve on? Some of the guest posts have not been very good. (Not mine of course) Also, the content doesn’t seem as fresh. But–and this is a big but–I think I may be experiecing blogs on blogs overload.

You didn’t ask for a suggestion but I’ll offer one. Daniel today described how he want to get 50,000 readers, and how he will let us know how he plans to reach that milestone, and Glen at Viperchill plans to create a million dollar website. Those series of posts fascinate me, and if Blogussion tried to do something similar, like involving an e-book, I’d come along for the ride.

What I like Blogussion… Great contents!
Videos are great. Also large titles summarizing what’s coming on the particular paragraph(s) are helpful, so that I can decide whether I should read it or skip.

I’m a new Thesis user, so MORE THESIS resources would be great!!! (I’ve never seen any thesis relaated post though…)

Also, if you can mark if a particular resources/strategies are for beginners, advanced, expert, pro etc. that’d be great. There are so many shiny things in the blogging world, as a still-new-ish not-techie-at-all blogger, I get overwhelmed, and scattered. I really need help with it, and I’m sure so are others!

Thanks for all you guys do!

Alex, Seth, and the rest of the Blogussion team:

Blogussion is a blog I check almost everyday because not only the site is fantastic looking, but the content is very unique. So, the number one thing that you guys have going for this blog is how you connect with readers through just your post, which is sometimes hard to do. Additionally, it always has a different approach to popular subjects (which every blog strives for) but your approaches are very helpful.

In terms of what I would love for you guys to improve on, I would like to see you narrow down your niche of blogging tips. From taking the above polls and knowing that you are very good at persuading or helping readers, I would pick a category that you all feel most comfortable or well-experienced in and run with it. There are so many blogs about blogging that are very general and broad, so if you want Blogussion to continue to grow I would suggest defining a closer niche and focusing all your posts around that niche. Or pick a couple of niches, but just get out of the whole general blog about blogging.

Thoughts?

Reply

Seth January 22, 2010 at 11:24 am

Derek I think your suggestion is very wise. We are using these polls to do just what you are talking about. Providing more of what our users want and defining our blog even more.

Our goals are pretty high and to succeed we need to learn even more about our readers and friends. The more you know the more you can help.
