Over the summer, I was lucky enough to receive an iPhone 4, despite all the fuss of shipping problems. It was a long wait, but when I finally got the thing I could not put it down. One of the first things I did with my new iPhone was start looking for some Apps.

I use my iPhone for a lot of things. Games for when I’m bored, something to read when I’m in the mood, or something that will just make me look cool walking in a public place (yes, iPhone’s make you sexier ;) ).

But the one thing I was excited to use my iPhone for was blogging. I knew there were plenty of apps a blogger could use right off the bat, as I also own an iPod Touch (first generation, so nothing special).

I searched the web for as many “Best iPhone apps for bloggers” lists as I could, and many of them were plagued with apps that were meant to help you write blog posts.

Now, I don’t know about you, but I don’t plan on writing 1,000+ word articles on my iPhone. So those lists were no help to me.

So I have actually found a pretty good deal of apps on my own by browsing the App Store. It’s insane what you will find in there, and yes, there really is an app for everything.

If you want to get your iPhone more involved with your blog, then you may want to check out some of the apps I have found below.

Awesome Note

Awesome Note

Price: $3.99 | Lite Version | View Website

This is probably the most gorgeous app in the entire store. It’s a todo manager/note taker/organizer/calendar and is extremely customization. Just about every aspect of this app can be changed by you. This is literally the best $4 I have ever spent in the App Store.

Reeder

Reeder

Price: $2.99 | View Website

This is probably the best RSS Reader I can find. It syncs automatically with your Google Reader account, and makes reading your latest items simple. Simple organization, easy sharing options and a well-designed user interface makes this app my RSS reader of choice.

Expense Tracker

ExpenseTracker

Price: $2.99 | Lite Version | View Website

It’s a good habit to start tracking your expenses and income coming in. You know, for those things called taxes that not even us blogger’s are exempt from. I use this app to keep track of all the money I spend, and all the money I make. It’s great for more than just staying organized, I also use it to get inspired every time I make money.

SimpleMindX

SimpleMindX

Price: Free | View Website

One of the best ways to collect thoughts is through mind mapping. This app is probably the best mind mapping solution for your iPhone. It is simple to use, customizable and just a pleasure to use. The first time I made a mind map in this app, it was very simple to get a hang of. Now I use it to develop just about any idea I have on-the-go.

BAM-Analytics

BAM Analytics

Price: $1.99 [Limited Time Only] | View Website

Honestly, I have never seen an app as information loaded as this one. You can see just about any piece of information from your Google Analytics account in just this one app. Every report is highly detailed, so all of you stat junkies will go crazy over this app (I think just using this app turned me into a stat junkie).

Zazen Suite - Deluxe Meditation & Mindfulness Timer

Zazen Suite

Price: $0.99 [Limited Time Only]

An important part of coming up with any great idea for your blog is brainstorming. This is not always an easy task for many people as good ideas are often hard to come by. So, the Zazen Suite app I found is perfect for helping you relax and help clear your mind so you can think a little clearer.

But the Apps Don’t Stop Coming

There are plenty of things on the iPhone, 3rd party app or not, that allow you to make blogging easier. Take notes in Apple’s Notes app, take photos and shoot HD videos for your posts, remember blogging events with the Calendar, stay connected with your blogging buddies via SMS messaging and more.

Now, I failed to mention some of the more obvious apps. There is WordPress for iPhone which every blogger probably has already. If you want to get social, download the Facebook and Twitter app. Literally every major social network has an official app, or can be viewed in Safari.

If you use PayPal, I recommend you go ahead and download the free PayPal app. That way, when you go on a PayPal spending spree thanks to the easy-to-use interface this app has, at least you’ll get your money’s worth constantly updating ExpenseTracker.

iPhone Users, What Apps do you Use?
Now I’m curious, what are some of the apps you use to help you maintain your blog/business? Share them all here, because I [we] can never have too many apps for our phone. Seriously, I bought the 32GB model and have absolutely no idea what to do with all of that space. If you’d even like to, feel free to show us a screenshot of your iPhone’s home screen. I’ll show you mine if you show me yours. ;)

I just have a good old iPod touch, because I don’t have AT&T but what I’ve found to be really useful for me as a blogger is:

Twitter, Mint, Paypal, Gmail (just go to the gmail mobile site via Safari and save it to your homepage), MindNode, MailChimp, and Billings (I need to use this more in the future).

MindNode is another mind mapping app I assume?

Good selection of apps – like you say it is insane what you find in the iStore – I have just been looking at travel related apps – where do you start?

I actually haven’t been through the Travel category, but I know there are plenty of apps in there. Google maybe? lol

It’s interesting how computers have gotten smaller, and how new generations adapt to new technology. My niece used to spend much of her time on her laptop, but now she hardly ever boots it up anymore because she spends all her time with her phone–and she’s not talking, she’s typing.

The older generation used to type with 2 fingers, but the kids today type with 2 thumbs. As the phone becomes more capable, even the laptop will seem to many as old school.

Oy, I feel old…

Rick

I’m bad, I’ll actually sit in front of my computer(s) and have my phone right in front of me. So, I’ll type away on my laptop and then pick up my phone and go at it there too.

I actually agree with you…things like the iPad are only the first step to the death of laptops you know? Wonder where we’ll be in 5 years from now. xD

While writing about “ExpenseTracker”, you stated that “the money i spend and money i make”. Approximately how much you are able to make from your blog without using CTR, CPM programs. You are only using affiliate programs (most of fpte pages).

Selling my product, affiliate programs, freelance are my only real sources of income at this time.

I use some pretty nice apps that are free to help me in my blogging.

#1 2Do Lite is a free productivity manager which allows you to group tasks as projects (with multiple to-do’s per project), by checklist, or by calendar. Its very nice looking and best of all its completely free.

#2 TweetDeck is an awesome app for managing twitter accounts, lists, searches and other must have twitter resources. FREE

#3 Dragon Dictation allows you the ease of voice to text. You speak and it writes. With current technology the dictation is almost perfect every time. The app allows you to email, message, facebook, or even tweet your dictation. I use it to write posts or notes while I am driving. Its also a very handy way to transcribe videos! FREE

Alex September 6, 2010 at 8:51 pm

Loving the idea of Dragon Dictation man…but the last app I tried like that it messed up A LOT lol. Maybe I’ll give this one a shot.

Haha, brainstorming & driving at the same time? Forgot how talented you were. :p

Seth W September 7, 2010 at 8:16 pm

I have an hour long drive every morning and afternoon so I usually just dictate or even better I use the voice memo app that comes standard with the iphone.

I then can replay my voice memos the next morning before I begin my next brainstorming session for the day. The way it works is that I review yesterdays good brainstorms. Think outloud for about 10 minutes and then start recording my good thoughts from thinking outloud. Over the hour I can hash out solutions to problems, create new methods, and devise new products/content.

The dictation app requires very clear dictation and time to really set it up right. But it has been great to get ideas down on paper sometimes. Especially catchy little taglines or quotes.

I personally love mind mapping with the MindMesiter app. I really find mind maps to be great and it is very easy to brainstorm and get tons of ideas while using them.

I almost looked at getting into MindMeister, but paying for something as simple as mind mapping just wasn’t for me.

I only have an iPod Touch but still use a lot of great apps. Here are some of my favorite:

1) mSecure – for the millions of passwords I need to remember
2) Twitter for iPhone – ’nuff said
3) Analytics Pro – Google Analytics on your iPhone (better than BAM Analytics) :)
4) Dropbox – File synchronization
5) Mint.com – Money management

I think I almost got Analytics Pro…but maybe it was too expensive. I forget, but I have to doubt anything can beat BAM Analytics. :D

This gadget will certainly help you to do all things. I use my mobile phone when I am on move. I store interesting pdf files on my mobile phone and I read them when I am waiting for someone or in the line for something.

I find the dictionary.com app to be really useful Sometimes when I’m reading things in my niche there are words that I won’t understand and so having my phone on hand is really handy. It’s also great if you want to use a fancy word in a blog post! It’s free, works without the Internet and has a thesaurus to use too.

I’ll look into the other apps and see how they can help me. By the way, I’ve been looking for a Google Reader, I might just give that RSS reader app a try.

Thanks,
