RetireAt21: Young Entrepreneurs Making Money Online – Review

by Alex

RetireAt21 has a very unique idea to it; to help young entrepreneurs reach online success. It is a very inspirational blog with a lot of useful information for people under 21, and even those over 21. With resources like “The Top 50 Young Entrepreneurs” and “Top Young Bloggers“, RetireAt21 makes it easy to keep up to date with the younger community on the internet.

But lists aren’t the only things that makes RetireAt21 such a valuable resource. There are pages of interviews with great, successful entrepreneurs (Daren Rowse, Matt Mullenweg, Aaron Wall, Collis Ta’eed, etc.), 2 complete guides on how to start blogging and creating your first website, a countless number of beginner articles, and much more. If you’re a young entrepreneur, you’d have to be out of your mind not to subscribe to their RSS Feed, because some of these resources are too good to miss out on.

The breakdown of the “Creating a Website” guide

As I had mentioned above, one of my favorite resources from RetireAt21 is their Creating A Website guide. It’s something I always find myself looking at to find a new service or tool to keep me occupied a bit. It’s a great guide for starting your first website, and is a must read for anyone looking to find what works and what doesn’t work for them.

The first thing I noticed about this page was the organization. This guide is neatly categorized and has plenty of information under each section. The guide is broken down into 6 topics:

  1. Setting up your domain name
  2. Hosting your website
  3. Which website platform should you use
  4. Designing your website, forum and blog
  5. Making Money from your website
  6. Where to promote your website

Under each category, you will find charts full of links to point you where you should go. Under each of the tables, you will find that they have different information about the link. Things like admin and user ratings, product prices, payout information, etc. It all depends on what the topic of the chart is (making money, ad networks, CMS, etc.).

The thing that is great about this guide is that there is a variety. There are plenty of links in each section, so if you don’t see something you like at first, there is a good chance there is another link that will work out better for you.

Overall, I love this guide and I just can’t find anything wrong with it. You will definitely find this an invaluable guide, no matter how many websites you have created.

A look inside the RetireAt21 Community

The owner, Michael Dunlop really values the community at RetireAt21. He has a fairly active forum where he posts every day on, a blog that gets updated daily with useful information. He even goes as far as to add all of his young entrepreneur readers onto MSN. which is not something I wouldn’t expect to see from someone who runs a pretty popular website.

The Blog

The regularly updated blog at RetireAt21 consistently provides their readers with great information. There is a specific post schedule that is kept there, and it’s not just Michael who updates the blog. The other two major blog contributors are Yan Susanto and Dean Hunt. Most of the inspirational writings are posted there, and even more list posts. Awesome lists like The Most Successful College Dropouts in History, and others are posted there a lot. Like I said before, RetireAt21 is huge on motivating you to become a better entrepreneur and some of their blog articles do that really well.

The one suggestion I do have for Michael, however is to reply to some comments in the blog posts a little more. I went through a couple posts, and sometimes I do see some conversation between the community, but it lacks a lot too. I think some nested comments should be set up and the blog post writer’s should just engage more in conversation with their commentators.

The Forum

It is not too often I see a website with a blog and forum, so I have to give props to Michael for doing this. The forum at RetireAt21 is a great place to really meet the other users of the site and interact with them. I have been a member there for about a week now, and while I have not posted there as much as I would have liked to, I did feel very welcome and wasn’t afraid to share my opinion on a topic with the community.

The forum isn’t the most active part of the site by any means. But I know Michael has been working on improving the forums so it becomes one of the most active. I see useful posts from him daily on the forum, and he always replies to new topics too. The forums are very well moderated, and it just has a great community vibe in it. I wish it could be more active, so it would be great if you went to the forum and registered for an account!

Concluding Thoughts

All in all, RetireAt21 is an amazing website. I have to say, every time I go there I really do feel gifted for all the knowledge and skills I have as a young entrepreneur. I continually get much motivation from the website, and from talking to Michael personally. There is hardly anything wrong with this site, so if you are under 21 and want some entrepreneur tips then visit RetireAt21 and subscribe to the RSS feed today.

I should become more active on their forums, because they are a nice and happy bunch of people :)

Well done to, Michael – he’s really done a great job on the site no doubt – and I’m really glad he was the first to get reviewed here at Blogussion :)

Well done to Alex too, as this is our first paid review – he’s really set the standards to what you can expect from it ;)

The site is definitely one heck of an inspiration. Very informative and has a lot of information on it. Can’t wait to see if some of the creators of retire at 21 are still around in 5 years and what they will be doing.

I’m over 21 but found Retireat21′s articles very useful to me. I learn a lot from his posts and interviews of successful internet entrepeneur on how to earn money online and retire early.

There are so many ways these days to make money online, legally of course. Young entrepreneurs usually have what it takes to succeed with making money online: they are very motivated, they have the technical skills that are needed, and they have the time. Being patient and staying up to date are very important factors to making money online. I have had success over the years and those are some things I have learned along the way.
