Changes, Opportunities & New Features Coming to Blogussion + A Farewell to Janith

in Blogussion News

Things have been crazy for me over the last week. It was my birthday, I was making the transition from New Jersey to Florida for a month and a half, I was having issues finding a computer to continue my work, and Janith has told me he resigned from Blogussion. I’ve been busy.

What I’ve Been Up To

Every year for the second half of July and all of August, I go down to Florida and visit my other family there. Now that I have responsibilities like managing two growing blogs and a freelance business I have to do what I can to manage that and the transition.

Unfortunately, the work I do requires me to be on a powerful computer such as a Mac. All of my blogging/freelancing tools are only for Mac, and I could not bring my Mac with me as it’s a desktop. So for the first 2 days I was here, I was without a laptop, which explains my absence from my work.

Thankfully, my freelance business has generated enough income for me to buy a Mac laptop and still have enough to function my web stuff. So now that I have access to a computer, everything on both of my blogs will be back to normal!

Janith Has Resigned

Unfortunately, the other admin here, Janith has resigned from Blogussion. I can tell you that his reason for leaving was due to his school work, and that’s all I’ll say. I don’t want to go into detail as I don’t know if he would appreciate me talking about his life like that.

I personally will miss working with Janith here a lot. I have been working with him on this blog since late December 2008, and his absence here will definitely have an impact on how Blogussion functions. But, that doesn’t mean things will turn for the worst.

Upcoming Changes

With me being the only active admin here, I have realized that I need to step up to the plate and make sure I keep Blogussion afloat by myself. I don’t think this will be too big of a challenge on my part as I have been managing Blogussion for weeks at a time by myself while Janith was wrapped up with his school work.

While I was without a computer, I was still working for Blogussion. Indirectly of course, but I brainstormed many things I want to do now that will help not only market this blog, but expand the community here.

Posting Schedule

Probably the most significant change here will be the posting frequency here. It has been a custom to post once a day onto Blogussion, but I have decided that it would be in our best interest (as well as make a good experiment) to update this blog once every second day (or every other day). There are many reasons why I want to do this:

  • It will lighten up my schedule to focus on my second blog and freelance business.
  • New readers will be able to catch up with past content and not be overwhelmed.
  • It will give me more time to work on developing ad marketing Blogussion
  • It will give me more time to write better articles. I will have much more time and tolerance to write great articles, so the quality of content here should be even better than normal.
  • It will create longer, more in-depth discussions within each post which helps with the comment ratio here.

I think this will be the best for not only myself, but for you guys as well. This will also be something I will be keeping tab on, so expect to see a post reflecting on how this transition on the post schedule effects Blogussion.

New Writers

I have decided that it would be better to get more writers here for different perspectives to be posted onto this blog. It’s great that I am willing to share my opinion with you, but it’s always great to have others share their opinions on other topics, or even the same one.

So, I will be on the look for more guest writers here and even some authors who will be willing to write for Blogussion consistently. If you want to become a writer here, we can talk about it. Just visit the contact page and we can chat.

So far I have already have found one author who posted on the 11th, and hope to find more!

New Features

Many things have been planned for this blog, but have never been carried out. There’s just so many things to do, and I think that with the posting schedule reduced, and I am finding people willing to write here, I will have so much more time to roll out all of these kick ass things.

Really, I don’t want to say anything about the new features except there will be some. But, the pages I have in the navigation menu will be revamped. That’s including:

  • About page
  • Contact page
  • Advertise page
  • Link Directory
  • Blogging Resources page

I personally cannot wait to roll out these new things, and I am excited that I will have so much more time to work on them now.

I am still really bummed that Janith is out, but I can promise that Blogussion will only get better.

Farewell, Janith! And good luck, Alex! I’d definitely be interested in contributing a few guest posts later this fall. I’ve already got a few ideas, but I’d like to get my site where I want it beforehand.

Your birthday too?!? Belated happy birthday Alex!

About Janith, it’s sad he’s leaving Blogussion. I understand his side, school work is really a tough thing to balance with blogging. I’ve been running my blog all alone for two years and I’ll be lying if I tell that it didn’t do any damage to my grades. I’m trying to keep the balance though.

Looks like you’ll be so busy. My best of luck to you Alex. I know you can do it! You’re a strong Mac loving kid! I’m thinking about applying as guest blogger, but I can’t promise fully enough. I also got many thing under my hands right now.

But if there’s anything I could do to help, you know my blog. Just give me a message :D

Haha, thanks! I have many pages to update on my blogs to change my age from 15 to 16. I kind of liked being that “15 year old kid” though!

Yeah, Janith has been trying to get on this blog for months, but school has seriously slowed him down from doing it. It has only made me a better blogger though.

I appreciate the support Liane. :) I really hope I can do this too, and I am going to work so hard to make this blog amazing.

There actually is something I want you to do, but it’s not for Blogussion…I will email you now about it. ;)

Alex:

You have an attractive blog with good content.

For the visitor navigation through the content would be greatly facilitated by
a “Categories” listing in your sidebar where particular themes could be quickly located.

I noticed you have categories listed on your “Archives” page, but some of the categories return an error message.

The time visitors stay on your blog will be enhanced by easier access to categories.

By the way, when I click the “Directory” link from the top menu, this is the result:

Fatal error: Call to a member function FetchRow() on a non-object in /home/blogussi/public_html/dofollow/index.php on line 131

You are off to a strong start with your blog.

Best of success,

Robert A. Kearse

Thanks Rob. When I first redesigned this site, I had a categories bar at the bottom of the site, but it didn’t work out. I am thinking of re-adding it somewhere though.

What kind of error do you get on the archives page by the way?

And yes, I know about the directory error. Like I said in the post, I am just going to redo it!

Thanks a ton for the feedback, I will do my best to carry them out.
