The Blogussion Inspired Theme is Now Available!

by Alex · 100 comments

The one thing that has been talked about so much about Blogussion is how wonderful and amazing the theme is (our content is pretty good too…). A lot of people like it, and it’s something we hear through emails, through Twitter, through comments, and really through any form of contact we have with our readers.

So for the year this blog have been around, and after talking with many people and making changes in our own design, it has been decided that a theme should go out for sale that has similarities to the look that so many people love. What was made was, I’ll be blunt, pretty damn cool.

So now I present to you, the Blogussion Theme for Thesis. Yes, this is only available for Thesis. But we have a special promotional offer for those of you who do not own Thesis and want this theme, which we think you will be hugely interested in.

So we have a lot going on here with this theme that will effect the future of how Blogussion will work. I know, it’s pretty crazy how selling a theme can change a whole blogs structure, but this has been in the works for months and we want to make Blogussion “more than just a blog.” Starting with this theme.

I’m going to leave that pretty sales page do most of the talking for the theme, but below are a few things I want to highlight with the introduction of this theme.

  • The theme costs $59.95, BUT its introductory price is $44.95 — a $15 reduced price. This lasts until January 10, 2010 (1÷10÷10)
  • If you do not own Thesis, we are offering you our theme for 40% off if you buy Thesis through us. Read here for more details.
  • We have an affiliate program setup which will give you 20% of every theme you sell on your blog. This is open to everyone, not just people who buy out theme.
  • If you have any questions before purchasing this theme, you can ask in our “Presale Questions” within our new support forum.

A Blogussion Forum

As a means of support for the Blogussion Theme, a support forum was created. Eventually one day we want to branch it out and turn it into a blogging community, but for now the primary focus is to support the Blogussion Theme.

There is a section for general blogging discussion located towards the bottom of the forum. It will be in use, and the Blogussion team will start some threads in there for you to talk in if you want to start chatting.

The forum is open to everyone, not just people who purchase the Blogussion Theme.

Go check it out!

This is a pretty cool theme, and we think you will love it. Go check it out and see all of the new features we have added. On top of all of the standard options the Thesis theme, we have added some new features that you will absolutely love:

  • Color chooser
  • Logo manager
  • Ad management
  • Widgetized header and footer
  • Admin panel controlled “big navigation” menu with dropdown menu options

Discuss your thoughts here, or talk about it on our new discussion forum! I can’t wait to see what you guys think.

Congratulations on the release Alex. The theme looks great. The fact that it requires the Thesis theme is likely to put off a few, but it’s a pretty effective way to earn some extra revenue.

Having said that I would think a future version that doesn’t require Thesis would be a sensible move.

I was thinking of having this as a standalone theme, but I decided not to do it as I wanted to keep this in the market which I target for my freelance business. I just really think more people should try out Thesis, and if wanting this theme is inspiration enough for them to get Thesis, then that’s fine with me. :)

But, I am also concerned about the ctr of any ad banner that’s placed in the content.. do you have an estimate?

The theme looks sweet Alex. How hard is customizing the theme’s sidebar (just hard coding) without breaking the admin features you put in? Also, I was wondering if there are any developer’s copy available. Lastly, is this for Thesis 1.5 or 1.6?

Thanks and congrats on the launch of the theme and the community board.

It’s just as easy as they are to edit in Thesis; nothing about the sidebars have been upgraded or downgraded. They just have a set background color, and images on the widgets.

Right now there aren’t any set deals, but if you want to buy more than one theme at a time, send an email and we can work something out. Maybe I should have made a bulk option for it!

And this is the latest version, Thesis 1.6.

I have read somewhere that some themes won’t work as well with the kind of browsers we use. I mean it would not be viewed the same with all browsers and it effects the speed of page loading as well. How does Blogussion Theme fare on these issues?

Do you want to keep your blog alive and thriving?

Reply

Alex January 5, 2010 at 7:46 pm

I tested the theme in all major browsers and everything looked fine layout and formatting wise. Of course, a lot of things depend on what kind of computer setup someone has.

As for speed, I can’t test that really in-depth, but it loads fine for me and so far I haven’t had any complaints about any loading issues from anyone who has bought it.

Hi Alex,

I have two questions and I hope you can share with me sooner, ideally before Jan. 10, you know why!

1. Is this theme has footer like this blog with category or not? Is that widgetized?
2. Does the theme have sidebar with colours like this blogussion? Can I add more sidebar, say 2 sidebar and 1 column for contents as default?

Really appreciate your response soon. I would like to make order once this is clear. Thanks

Haha, I’m replying to your comment right after approving it then. :)

You can have categories in your footer, but they will display vertically rather than horizontal.

You can have up to 2 extra sidebars, just like Thesis. This theme does not have any effect on the functionality of the regular Thesis options, you can still add columns and change the widths of your columns.

The colors only come in blue, gray, green and orange. No red.

Can’t wait to see that post Jake, don’t forget to signup to the affiliate program! A few people have already sold the theme through it already. :)

Weird, what browser are you using? No errors in IE8, Chrome of Firefox for me.

This is gonna be cool…

Anyway a quick question here Alex.

Does it come with any plug-in that does Text-to-Image which converts ordinary and ugly fonts to cool images like those in your sidebar (sometimes headline titles)?

Please reply before 1/10 LOL. :D

No, but there are plugins you can install for that.

Hi Blogussion Team,

Congrats on the launch of your Thesis theme! That’s really exciting for you and it looks great.

I’m a Blogussion subscriber and Thesis user and Im hoping you can answer a design question I have regarding the theme.

1) On Blogussion, how did you set the unique background images for the content column of specific pages, such as the about page or the contact page?

2) How did you get your post images to float right of the post heading? http://www.blogussion.com/marketing/branding-battle-favicon/

3) Your site loads super fast! I find my Wordpress sites load slowly. Who do you guys use for hosting? Or is there a specific plugin that you recommend?

Big help if you have the time and thanks in advance!

Thanks Andrew, it was the best decision we made all year. :) I would be more than happy to answer your questions bud.

1) All I did was set a class name via the SEO & Additional Posts Styles in the Thesis posts panel, and targeted .pageClass #content { background: { ... } in the CSS. Feel free to poke around the source code if you need to.

2) Standard Thesis option, apply these settings in your post images settings: http://grab.by/1GA8

3) I always hear this site loads a little sluggish because of all the graphics, but if you say it’s fast, then I’m a happy kid. :D

The plugins we use to speed this blog up are WP Super Cache and Javascript to Footer. But you know, follow the standard blog optimization rules and you should be fine.

And we use WPWebhost to host this blog.

You’re a class act Alex. Always a fast, informative, and friendly response. It’s no wonder Blogussion is doing so well. Keep up the good work!

Thanks! Thesis is like an onion. Lots of layers, in this case tucked away options.

One more question. How are you displaying the 10 Most Recent Posts as teasers on the Archives page? I’m guessing it’s a PHP command, but maybe simpler.

Thanks again!

That’s one of the feature of Thesis. You can configure it under Thesis’s admin panel.

Thesis Options > Display Options > Archives > Your Setting Here

Hope it helps.
