8 Priceless WP-Themes... FOR FREE!

8 Priceless WP-Themes… FOR FREE!

by Janith · 70 comments

in Blog Design

I’m sure you’ve seen 10s of 100s of similar “Free WP-Themes” lists around the net. It’s almost infinite but unfortunately most of these lists – are repeatedly too often used therefore becoming saturated. These themes get thrown around so often – that their purpose as a visual ‘eye-candy’ is almost completely gone.

So, when I first came up with the idea of making such a post, nearly a month ago – I decided to do a lot of research and instead of posting “100+ Saturated Themes” decided to bring together a handful of unique themes that I personally haven’t seen been used much.

Each and every theme is remarkably impressive and is produced by generous designer(s) that decided to keep it free.

Great finds. I personally like the WP-NewsMag theme, looks very neat and professional. I might even think about implementing it onto my blog. Thanks for sharing!

No worries, Evan. Glad you found them useful ~ feel free to use them on your site (but you have to move to Wordpress, of course).

I just dropped by your site quickly and since it’s music orientated; I would recommend searching up music-specific themes. I’m sure they are some really good ones for it.

Wow there are some nice themes here, Blues & GameZine especially strike me. This almost makes me to want reconsider my recent redesign and use one of these instead!

I’ve never seen any of these before either, so well done on providing some original info!

No worries Dot Com Dud, I’m glad you’ve found it useful :)
It’s a shame not many people know about these wonderful themes, but then again it helps preserve the uniqueness.

The free theme called “USDMoneyMaker” is a perfect example of what happens to a ‘pure awesome’ theme that gets used too often. It just doesn’t have the same effect when it comes to visual eye-candy as it did perhaps when it first came out.

While I didn’t really dig the Arthemia theme from the demo, the modified version used on Dpad is a vast improvement just from the header design instead of standard text as well as the headlines plug-in that’s used there. Aesthetics are everything!

Speaking of that example you used, any idea which plug-in is DPad using to scroll through the featured posts at the top?

Hey Stuart,
I couldn’t agree with you more. The demo for Arthemia is showcased in such a way that most of it’s features are not visible. D+Pad uses a paid script that makes the posts scroll like that.

It’s $15 and you can get the download link + full guide which is found here.

However, if it doesn’t fit your budget there’s several free ones that imitate the same effect, but then again it doesn’t look as good ;)

Thanks for the info! While I don’t have a use for it right “now” that is a much better interface than what I’ve seen so far that I have planned for a future project so will be sure to have it bookmarked for later this year.

What kind of error do you exactly get? I just tried downloading a couple ~ they work fine (Tried GameZine and Arthemia)

If you can’t download any of them, then it’s probably your computer/internet because they are all hosted on their own independent servers.

If you can, show us the error(s) you get, and perhaps we can help you out :)

Glad you could take something away from it, MTSandeep.
When I first download GameZine – I spent about 2 hours trying to locate it’s PSD Files. Then I ran across it’s dedicated forums, which had a pinned post.

Sorry for the inconvenience everyone, but now instead of a direct download link – I’ve posted their corresponding author’s download page.

It’s just an extra step of locating the actual download link but shouldn’t be a hassle :)

Dear Janith,

I just visited your blog for the time and it rocks. I have subscribed to remain updated. I really liked this post and it sure is useful ALOT. :)

Anyways, had a question. The preview website of theme “arthemia” is Dpad magazine and I really love the plugin (content slider made in flash) he is using…. I have seen similar one named “featured content” or what ever but its not flash based. So can you let me know what is the name of this plugin or anyother info regarding it?

Thanks again for this wonderful post. Keep updating and rocking. :)

Regards,
Umar.
